Summary of 2007 meetings

June 2007

Peter Phun showed members how to use Image Capture to do download images from their digital cameras. To learn more about this, read his tutorial. Now if he could only remember his password for the free Tripod.com account, his demo would have been flawless. That aside, if you're at all curious, try it by reading the tutorial. It doesn't require you to buy any software. If you have broadband, you should be all set to try it.

May 2007

For May's meeting John installed Parallels on his MacBook Pro and he installed Windows XP Professional. He discussed the various pros and cons of emulation versus using Bootcamp which gives you the capability to boot up in either Mac OS or Windows

Wayne Haniuk was the winner in the April 2007 raffle. He won a bevy of office supplies including a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) Photo by Jim Maxwell.

April 2007

John brought in various GPS or Global Positioning Satellite Systems like the Garmin, Tom Tom. He showed us how they work. Most of those handheld devices don't connect to the computer. For interface with your Mac, Peter brought in a bluetooth unit which connects to your powerbook and works with mapping software.

March 2007

In our March meeting, John discussed Blogs and their influence on our society. John talked about the influence of blogs from minor obscure stories to presidential campaigns and other means of disinformation. Then Peter a very popular free blogging software called "Wordpres" and how the interface looks using the web GUI interface.

February

For February's meeting, David showed us AT&T's latest broadband, HDTV and Voice Over Internet Phone service.

January

For January's meeting Peter Phun arranged for John's son Bobby to chat with us briefly using his HP laptop which has a built-in webcam using Skype. Peter showed how to transfer files to our PC friends and he discussed the interface.
